About Sarah Miller Totten
Sarah Miller Totten, a visual artist from Westchester County and a BSVA from SUNY New Paltz, brings more than 15 years of expertise as an educator in Northern Westchester, Putnam County and the greater Hudson Valley, NY.
Formerly serving an 11+ year tenure as the Director of the Katonah NY Arts Center, she continues to excel as an instructor proficient in various painting and drawing mediums at her studio, local venues, and regular art instruction at Railyard Arts Studio in Croton Falls, NY. With a rich history of collaboration, Sarah was commissioned as a working artist to the creation of large-scale paintings for public, private, and corporate fine art collections worldwide.
Since then, Sarah has revisited her classical approach by studying with a selection of artists, including Jock MacRae, Laurel Stern Boeck, Steve Forster, and Rick Brazill. Sarah flourishes in creating a collegial realm for teaching and working artists, embracing diverse visual interests and knowledge from classical approaches to the abstract.
Passionate about sharing the joy of art with communities, Sarah actively engages in teaching drawing and painting workshops, paint parties, and weekly art classes. She imparts her wealth of knowledge to groups of all ages and skill levels, catering to beginners, intermediate artists, and advanced artists alike.
Sarah’s range of visual arts instruction includes Painting (oil and acrylic paint), Portraiture, Plein Air / Outdoor Painting, Beginner Art, Watercolor, Design Fundamentals, Chalk Pastel, Drawing, and Mixed Media, creating an enriching and inclusive artistic experience for all.
Practicing Tai Chi and Qi Gong for 15 years has deeply shaped her philosophy in both art and life. The slow, deliberate movements of Tai Chi and the meditative focus of Qi Gong have taught her the value of mindfulness, balance, and harmony. In art, this translates to a profound connection with the creative process, where each stroke or design choice is made with intention and awareness.
